Makers Love Company Design Lab | $275 (materials not included)Discover the art of translating your ideas into wearable form. This 5-week, hands-on course invites intermediate and advanced sewists to explore the patternmaking process from concept to finished garment. Together, we’ll learn to see clothing as both craft and design — shaping pieces that fit our bodies, tell our stories, and express our creativity.
Each student will design and draft their own garment pattern with guidance and group input, then bring it to life through careful construction and fitting. You’ll leave with a finished garment, a reusable pattern, and the skills to continue creating custom designs long after the class ends.
In This Course You’ll Learn:
How to take measurements and create a custom pattern block
Techniques for dart manipulation, seam design, and creative pattern development
How to transform a design sketch or favorite garment into a pattern
Fitting methods for real bodies and real wear
Professional finishing and pattern labeling
What to Expect:
Format: Demonstrations, guided design time, and hands-on pattern drafting
Homework: Gathering materials, bringing in favorite garments, or continuing your sewing project between sessions
Outcome: One finished garment and a reusable custom pattern
Showcase (optional): Students are invited to share their final pieces in the studio or on the Makers Love Company website.
Bring your curiosity, a sketchbook, and the garments you love most — we’ll use them as a springboard to explore shape, fit, and design.
